My heart belongs to Berlin # 4217

Yes, yes, Berlin again. I do love the place. (Just in case you missed it, somehow, you can take a peek here and here).

But that city has surprises everywhere, and this was a couple of streets on the edge of Mitte that had awesomely named businesses.

Brilliant.

No idea what they do, but who cares? Fabby name.

Love that the 'Personality Crisis' store has a Sale on. No idea what to do with that.

Obviously we found all these cool places as we were dashing back to the hotel to check out on the last day. I totally know where I am going first next year.

Coming soon to this slot, a place that isn't Berlin.

Probably.

A Sunday-something-to-lust-after.

Oh my, it is wedding dress season, or more accurately the big fashion houses are coming out with their 2013 Bridal Collections. Now I want to get married again. I didn't wear a white dress - I got married in navy and sparkly gold in Vegas and then wore a brown and gold 50s flowery dress to our wedding celebration in England.

It must be my turn to wear a big white dress.

Pictures from this fabby website.
So pretty.

Saturday snapshot: Or why I have never been up the Empire State Building.

I've only been to New York once, and only for a few days. We did some awesome New York type things (have you been to the Strand bookshop? 'Home to 18 miles of books.' 18 miles of books... Swoon..).

And then the last couple of days looked like this.

Not much of an Affair to Remember at all.

Friday 27 April 2012

It's raining it's pouring, the old man is snoring.

It is raining, but everyone around here is painting. But really, enough of that.

Instead, let's pretend that I have enough money to buy anything from Diane von Furstenburg and that I live somewhere where it may be used. You know, apart from that bag, which is LOVELY.

Everything here is from this website. It is full of lovely things, you should take a look.

It's true what they say, watching paint dry is dull.

I may have mentioned it in passing (please read with coy irony), but we are painting our new house at the moment, and when you are trying to get more than one coat done in a day, you end up watching paint dry.

Enough.

Here are some way better things to look at:

These are via here.

Yeay You Tube!

All I have really done in the last week is paint - interspersed with some house-packing-up. Score. I was a bit tired in the first few evenings. Turns out that if you laze around for a couple of years, your first few full days of work are a bit of a shock to the system.

But that's why they have You Tube.

It's for those days when you can't be bothered to read. Or hold up your laptop because your painting arms are a bit achy. For when you just want to lie in bed and watch something.

And especially for when you remember how awesome the Fast Show was and sit back lie down and enjoy.

So please, enjoy.

(Oh how the Fast Show rocks.)

Tuesday 24 April 2012

Here's one I made earlier..

(Terribly mildly funny title if you grew up watching Blue Peter).

So, new house + masses of wall space = Yeay! New pictures!

I love a graphic print and have a  few already and figured I could make one myself. Apart from it is totally not as easy as it looks, I do love how it turned out.

(This was a little while ago before I knew anything much about public domain images and referencing where you found things from and the like. I can't remember where the blackbird came from, I found it to send to my nephew for a terribly mildly funny joke. So you know, don't copy it, it's probably deeply illegal).

But I love it and it will hang in our house.

Yeay loads of empty wall space!

My heart belongs to: Lisbon #1.

Lisbon is such a fabby city, if you haven't been before, go, book, get there...

It is warm, friendly, has lovely old winding streets and isn't expensive. Which is pretty much perfect.

Plus they have a bonkers tower in the middle of the city.

And a castle.

And all sorts.

Oh, I definitely heart Lisbon.

A Sunday-something-to-lust-after: Karl Lagerfeld's library.

Somehow I have missed seeing this until now. I don't quite know why as it seems to have been all over the internet for ages and it is AWESOME and BEAUTIFUL and AWESOME again. And totally the kind of thing I love. A massive library full of books.

So, it is totally worth showing and sharing, but due to the been-all-over-the-internet-for-years part, no article, just pictures. (If you do want an article there are lots, but I did like this one).

Image.

You work that room, Karl.

Friday 20 April 2012

Woo yeah! Uh huh!

So the painting is getting old fast. Still not complaining though. Not even mentioning my paint-roller-blisters. Nope. None of that.

I do need a peppy motivator though. I saw this ages ago and put it on my Pinterest. Just the ticket for these painting days.

Yeah, I don't actually have blisters on my feet, but the awesomeness is there.

Back to my roller.

Something pretty to make me smile.

We got the keys to our new house on Tuesday evening so yesterday was the first day of painting. There will be many more days of painting and whilst I'm not complaining, I don't really want to think about it for very long... Plus it snowed again today. I mean, really.

So, let's forget that and think about these pretty, pretty summery things.

Nice one, Mr Jacobs.

Aaah, Alexander McQueen.

Yeay, Suno.

You win, DvF. Lush.

i heart etsy.

It is such an awesome place to browse, shop and get totally inspired.

Today I bring you a utterly delightful selection of Kawaii sushi - it's a real sub group of a sub group, but you would be amazed what it is out there..

Totally cute and totally something for everyone.

Go Etsy, folks!

Tuesday 17 April 2012

Bonkers weather and me.

Yesterday it snowed. It's April, but still we got snow. Yesterday was the first day of the year you can't drive with your winter tyres on. Honestly Norway, not funny.

It wasn't so very much, not like proper winter snow, but still, not necessary.

And then I came across this article about an earthquake in Denver last year. When I was there. Which has me baffled as I don't remember one at all and nor does my husband. I have been racking my brains trying to recall anything but nope, not a sausage.

We both felt an earthquake when we were in LA a couple of years ago (take that dinner-in-Bel-Air-at-the-next-door-table-to-Jennifer-Aniston for a proper LA experience) and I noticed that one, it was like my legs were drunk from the knees down. I had no idea that it was anything until I saw the kerb shift a bit. Oh. Right. Earthquake.

In my defence, I am English and so not set up for much other than rain...

My heart belongs to: Berlin street art.

Berlin is brilliant for random street art and a bit of well-placed, well-done graffiti. I'm sure it is all terribly deep and full of hidden meaning.

Some of it is a little saucy. They use swear words and everything.

Don't look too hard at the pictures, you will giggle and blush.

We did, once we realised what we were looking at.

Sunday 15 April 2012

A Sunday slice of history: or how I'm not a bad person but I am kind of glad the Titanic sank.

Which is a dreadful thing to say on the 100 year anniversary, but bear with me, there is some reasoning here.

Back in the early 20th Century, my great grandmother married a chap by the name of Frederick Simmons, who was a merchant seaman. The family story has it that he had the choice to go on Scott's voyage to Antarctica or on the Titanic. His wife was pregnant so he chose to go on the Titanic because he would leave after the baby was born and be back much sooner. Too much irony for words, as whilst Scott didn't fare well, he would have been more than fine as part of the ship's crew.

This is that baby (or Great Uncle Ted as we used to call him) and my great grandmother in 1914 or so.

My great grandmother went on to marry again and had four more children, one of which was my grandmother.

So you see, I am terribly sorry Titanic, but all things considered, I am pretty much on the iceberg's side.

(And in a delightfully linking-up way, this little fellow went on to marry the lovely lady I showed you yesterday - my Great Aunt Lily Johnny Galecki's ancestor).

Friday 13 April 2012

I love me a nice bit of typeface.

A pleasing font or good graphic is just so satisfying. Plus I just re-discovered Tumblr and those two things seem to be going pretty well together.

Genius.

All these images are from my Tumblr or are on my Pinterest.

On how finding the right shoe is like the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

You may well know that I'm going to be a bridesmaid in the summer. Yeay and Hurrah. We, the bridesmaids, have very cute pale champagne dresses. You can tell by that post that I thought we would have pale shoes to tone, but now we will have a black ribbon belt / sash / waist enhancement so black shoes it is.

Turns out it's hard to find a black shoe that is delicate enough to be worn with a bridesmaid dress but not too fancy.

Bring it on Goldilocks...

I really like these actually, I just wonder if they aren't a bit too high to wear all day. Sorry Daddy Bear.

Cute and everything they should be, but totally not exciting. Nope, Mummy Bear.

Oh hello Baby Bear. You seem to be just right.

Wednesday 11 April 2012

I made a button! I did it!

Unfortunately it took far too long for it to be a slick and easy operation - that had nothing to do with the fab tutorial I found, that was all me. In my defence, it was awfully early in the morning and it was the first time that I'd used Photobucket properly.

Small drumroll please....

Am terribly pleased with myself.

So pleased that I made a spare...

Shame I wasn't so smiley that day.

The button, complete with code, is ready for grabbing - help yourselves.

Tuesday 10 April 2012

A little something for Spring.

A perfect little Marc Jacobs cardigan..

..needs a sweet Balenciaga dress..

..with perhaps a neat Gucci shoe to finish.
