Oh hurrah, we're getting there...

So in the last couple of days we have done a bunch more stuff to the house (pretty sure that 'a bunch more stuff' is proper design speak too).

We shipped out our old sofa and have a lovely new one..

Although it isn't lovely for everyone, that 14 year old boy in our house doesn't like it, it's too flowery.

Plus we put up squillions of pictures, so now it looks better on the walls, plus we have got rid of the piles of pictures from the floor. Total win.

This is my favourite - it was a first anniversary present from my sister (you know, because it is paper, and referencing the comedy moustaches from our wedding party).

It is available here if you want one too.

Anyway, there are LOADS more to go up, so back to my hammer.

A Sunday-something-to-lust-after: I totally need me one of these..

Or one of these..

Or even one of these..

So unbelievably totally frickin' bored of doing things around the house.

Summer lounging.

It is Day 381 in the moving house and we aren't finished yet. We are totally getting there, just not yet. This week is all warm and lovely, so what we need to do is drop everything and get outside and start lounging. With a big drink.

(These lovely things are all from Pottery Barn. Does anyone else hear Pottery Barn and immediately think of Friends and the apothecary table? Oh, the 90s...)

Blah blah blah, day three, blah blah..

Yeah, unpacking, yeah we have painting to do in a couple of rooms, yeah we still have loads to do.

Let's ignore it all once more and get back to my Pinterest boards. Today is decor. Or styling. Or decorstyling. Whatever is the opposite of bigger picture. Smaller picture. Those little areas that just look perfect. Regardless of what we shall call it, it is all terribly cute and I want.

Day two in the moving house...

Well gracious me, we have a lot of crap. I was at the old house yesterday and there are so many bits and bobs left over (they would have been packed, honest, but the movers turned up two hours early). Plus a lot of dust from under the beds. Disgraceful.

To totally ignore celebrate that let's look at something else. Yesterday was all white and clean. Today, colour.

Day one in the moving house....

Goodness me, what a lot of boxes we have piled up here. I have a funny feeling this may take a while, but we are getting there. We have internet here - yeay! But the kettle is still (randomly) in the old house - ohh!

No pictures yet, I will Before-and-After the hell out of you, don't worry.

In the meantime, let's look at some pretty places that don't have any boxes stacked up at all. Not one.

Hmm, pinteresting...

(Yeah, I know, lame kind-of-pun, but the paint fumes are getting to me...)

All the pinning and browsing I did months ago is actually helpful now. We are over half way painting the house and it has made such a difference. The whole house is lovely - clean, gleaming white  (well, one of the hundreds of just-off-white shades).

This means that I can start playing with furniture and styling....

Yeay!

Things I have learnt while painting.

Turns out that if you wear latex doctor gloves to stop you getting covered in paint, your hands are sweaty things when you take them off.

Ick.

Turns out that if you get past the sweaty and cover your hands in rich lovely hand cream and wear latex doctor gloves nearly every day for the best part of two weeks, your skin is oh-so-very soft and happy.

Fabulous.

It's true what they say, watching paint dry is dull.

I may have mentioned it in passing (please read with coy irony), but we are painting our new house at the moment, and when you are trying to get more than one coat done in a day, you end up watching paint dry.

Enough.

Here are some way better things to look at:

Here's one I made earlier..

(Terribly mildly funny title if you grew up watching Blue Peter).

So, new house + masses of wall space = Yeay! New pictures!

I love a graphic print and have a  few already and figured I could make one myself. Apart from it is totally not as easy as it looks, I do love how it turned out.

(This was a little while ago before I knew anything much about public domain images and referencing where you found things from and the like. I can't remember where the blackbird came from, I found it to send to my nephew for a terribly mildly funny joke. So you know, don't copy it, it's probably deeply illegal).

But I love it and it will hang in our house.

Yeay loads of empty wall space!

Woo yeah! Uh huh!

So the painting is getting old fast. Still not complaining though. Not even mentioning my paint-roller-blisters. Nope. None of that.

I do need a peppy motivator though. I saw this ages ago and put it on my Pinterest. Just the ticket for these painting days.

Yeah, I don't actually have blisters on my feet, but the awesomeness is there.

Back to my roller.

Something pretty to make me smile.

We got the keys to our new house on Tuesday evening so yesterday was the first day of painting. There will be many more days of painting and whilst I'm not complaining, I don't really want to think about it for very long... Plus it snowed again today. I mean, really.

So, let's forget that and think about these pretty, pretty summery things.

Nice one, Mr Jacobs.

Aaah, Alexander McQueen.

Yeay, Suno.

You win, DvF. Lush.

Some light archaeological geekery for the day.

So, we are moving house in a couple of weeks or so. It turns out that our next door neighbours have a viking burial mound in their back garden. A VIKING BURIAL MOUND IN THEIR BACK GARDEN. It is almost too cool for words.

I don't have a picture of that actual one because, you know, we haven't moved in yet, so right now it would just be stalking. But here are a couple of shots of some bigger ones in a park up the road from us:

The one next door really is way smaller.

But there's more! Yes! It further turns out that the bit of land on the other side of us is being looked at currently. They have evidence of people having lived on that site so far, so who knows what else they will find?

Now, of course, I am totally Time Team psyched and want us to hire some ground penetrating radar ro check our place over.

Once we move in, of course.

Living the high life.

I cannot begin to tell you how exciting today will be. First up I am going to the dentist, which will hurt. She is a nice lady and all, but she hurts me. Simple as that. Blech. Then later, after work, I am taking my husband out. Kind of a Friday date night, if you will. We are off to Ikea. Yep. For realz.

Friday night is Taco Buffet night. I absolutely kid you not.

(I would like to point out at this juncture that we are going to look at furniture and any and all taco eating that may happen will be purely coincidental).

But still, this moving house lark is kind of so-so. There is the excitement of shopping and picking new things and working out the layout and colour scheme. Of course I love that. But then there is the newspaper saving for packing and the Ikea after work and the fact that we will be buying at least 200 litres of paint. 200 frickin' litres. Yes it will be worth it, yes it will (hopefully) look lovely, yes we want to do it, but the thought of 200 litres of paint makes me feel a little weak kneed. And not in a good way.

Despite the whinging, I really can't wait to do this. Oh, and there will be before and after pictures. Consider yourselves warned.

I would imagine it will go from something like this.....

To something like this....

Probably.
